‘AutoAbstraction- An Autotheoretical Analysis of a Post-Feminist Painters Praxis', Dominique’s PhD thesis project, 2021-2026, is motivated by her research in phenomenology, feminist aesthetics, color theories, autotheory, and abstract painting. The title is intended as a philosophical, theoretical, and stylistic reference to Dominique's post post-minimal (identity-based and body-centric), post-feminist (gender & sex fluid and inclusive), and art historically informed research. The color palette is influenced by her own olive skin, the Fitzpatrick Skin Type Scale (aka SPF and emoji skin tone charts), a Pantone SkinTone Guide), beauty industry product promotional color charts, and pre-mixed or out-of-the-tube paint colors. Largely due to the skin tone references, many of the works readily lend themselves to psychosexual and/or abstracted figurative interpretations.
